The ill elephant died at 5.30 pm on Sunday in spite of being medically treated and given glucose and jaggery mixed with fruit juice to keep it hydrated.
Coimbatore: Forest Department officials and veterinarians were informed that a female elephant was found lying unconscious on private land in the Periya Thadagam area of Coimbatore, on Sunday morning.
The ill elephant has been receiving treatment since Sunday. The blood and the dung of the elephant have also been examined to determine the cause of the illness. Though reports showed the elephant as well, it died on Sunday evening at 5.30 pm, failing to respond to the medical treatment. The elephant was even given glucose and jaggery, mixed with fruit juice to keep it hydrated. The Forest Officer and the District Veterinarian have been informed about the elephant's death.
According to forest officials, the dead elephant's body will be examined again.
