Pollachi Food Smuggling Prevention Unit on behalf of the police held a consultative meeting to discuss steps to prevent the illegal procurement of paddy from other districts
Coimbatore: Paddy cultivation is increasing in Tamil Nadu. A complaint arose that paddy farmers in Tamil Nadu were being affected as paddy was being brought to Tamil Nadu from outside without proper permission. In this connection, on the instructions of the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Food Smuggling Prevention Unit has issued an order on the instructions of the DGP of the Police to regulate the importation of paddy into Tamil Nadu without proper permission. Steps that can be implemented to identify factories who are involved in the purchase of paddy without permission were discussed.
A consultation meeting was held today at the Pollachi Food Smuggling Prevention Division Police Office for lorry owners, farmers and private paddy stall owners in the Pollachi, on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border area. The meeting was attended by lorry owners and paddy sales owners from the Pollachi area. It was advised at the meeting that bundles of paddy should not be brought to Tamil Nadu from outside the state without proper permission as Tamil Nadu farmers are affected due to outstation paddy procurement. Also, the Food Smuggling Prevention Unit police have warned that action will be taken against those found guilty.
