Coimbatore: The Election Flying Squad of Coimbatore has been vigilant since the announcement of the urban local body polls and seized 3 lakhs from an ex-AIADMK Councillor for non-possession of relevant papers.
The Election Flying Squad officials are conducting intensive vehicle searches across Coimbatore district, ahead of the Urban local body elections.
Officials led by Election Flying Squad Officer Kalpana were conducting vehicle searches near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore and stopped former AIADMK Councillor Lokanathan who was on a two-wheeler arriving from Thondamuthur to Thenkarai. On searching him, it was found that he was in possession of 3 lakh without the relevant documents.
The officials seized the money and took it to the Thondamuthur Town Panchayat Office. The officials refused to return the money to Lokanathan since he did not have proper papers, despite him stating he had been carrying them for agricultural purposes.
