Amidst the fiery election works going on in the city, the District Collector Dr. GS Sameeran has stated that the Covid monitoring works are also being done in full swing and the infection rate in the city is under control.
Coimbatore: District Collector Sameeran has stated that there is no compromise is made on the preventive measures for Covid in the city.
In the midst of election work, corona prevention measures are being taken up intensively in Coimbatore by the district administration. Coimbatore district has 9,800 beds to treat patients suffering from the corona infection. Corona Special Treatment Centres have 4,300 beds, as well as 5,300 oxygen beds, 129-kilolitres of liquid medical oxygen containers, and 31 liquid oxygen generators in place for use.
A total of 24 doctors and nurses have been appointed on a four-hour cycle. At present, only about 10 to 15 percent of the beds are occupied due to the constant monitoring by the district administration, resulting in a decrease in cases day-by-day.
On the other hand, the district administration is actively concentrating on the urban local body elections. With a total of 41 urban local bodies viz., 1 Corporation, 7 Town Panchayats and 33 Town Panchayats, the polls are to be held in a single phase. Elections will be held for 100 ward seats in Coimbatore Corporation, 198 ward seats in 7 municipalities and 513 ward seats in 33 town panchayats.
1,290 polling stations in the corporation, 390 polling stations in 7 municipalities and 632 polling stations in 33 town panchayats with a total of 2,312 polling stations. 41 Election Officers and 110 Assistant Election Officers have been appointed for this election. About 10,172 officers will be deployed at the rate of 4 polling officers per polling station.
The Election Code of Conduct has come into force, and the political parties and candidates are directed to follow the Covid prevention guidelines and the guidelines of the district administration.
District Election Officer and Collector Sameeran has requested for all possible cooperation in conducting the elections freely and safely. Meanwhile, 72 flying squads have been formed in the district to monitor election violations.
Collector Sameeran said, 'Coronavirus prevention measures are implemented in Coimbatore district without any compromise. Although the corona infection decreased, preventive measures are being done in the same pace. We are taking all necessary precautions for further prevention. Work is being carried out on the directions of the State Election Commission and the high court regarding the elections'.
