Coimbatore: The wards allotted for the candidates from coalition parties of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has been released ahead of the Urban Local Body Elections.
The much-awaited DMK alliance ward allocation in Coimbatore Municipal Corporation was released on Tuesday. With the local body elections scheduled to be held on the 19th, the fact that the major parties DMK, AIADMK, and BJP are yet to release the list of candidates has created a lot of anticipation among the party men.
Meanwhile,BJP state president Annamalai announced that the BJP would contest individually, after the BJP and AIADMK's formally have parted ways in the local body election. With just three days to go before filing nomination papers, expectations piled up on seat allotment for the alliances of DMK.
Following the loss in Coimbatore in the assembly elections, DMK is looking forward to grabbing the throne this time and there are serious studies being held on allotting seats, led by Minister Senthil Balaji, and the role of the coalition partners in the victory.
In the first phase of the candidate list, an official announcement has been made about the allocation to the coalition partners. Accordingly, out of the total 100 wards in the Coimbatore Corporation, four wards have been allotted to the Communist Party of India in the DMK alliance, three wards for MDMK, two wards for Kongunadu Makkal Katchi, one ward for Manidhaneya Makkal Katchi and Indian Union Muslim League after an agreement between the DMK allies.
Moreover, DMK sources said the final round of talks is underway as there was no information about the alliance and seat-holding of the Congress and Marxist Communist party.
According to Congress party sources, wards for the Congress alliance will be announced in a little while and 7 to 9 wards will be allotted to the Congress party.
