DMK cadres in Sundakkamuthur staged an agitation over speculations of Ward No: 89 being allotted to Congress party. The DMK cadres alleged that few Congress cadres were in touch with former AIADMK Minister SP Velumani.
Coimbatore: Since the schedule for the forthcoming urban local body polls have been announced, no day has passed without any political drama unfolding. With every passing day, the battleground gets intensified. The latest being DMK functionaries in Sundakkamuthur alleging the congress of having a secret alliance with AIADMK Former Minister.
The DMK loyalists clearly are not happy Alli action of seats to Congress and hence staged an agitation over speculations of Ward No 89 being allotted to Congress.
With the urban local body elections scheduled to be held on the 19th, seat allocations are in progress in 100 wards of Coimbatore Corporation. While the Congress party has been allotted 9 seats in the DMK alliance, the areas from where the candidates will contest, are yet to be officially announced.
Reportedly, the Congressmen are understood to have sought support from Ward 89 in Sundakkamuthur locality, claiming allotment, which has created confusion among DMK cadres. Dissatisfied with this, the DMK cadres staged a sudden protest in the area raising slogans against allaged allocation of Ward 89 to the Congress party.
They subsequently alleged that while the DMK and Congress alliance had won 12 seats when Kuniyamutthur was earlier a Town Panchayat, the Congress, which had won only 4 seats, had formed a secret alliance with the AIADMK, which won only 9 seats and lost the Town Panchayat President post.
They continued to insist that the Ward should not be allotted to congress party functionaries in the area who were supporting Former AIADMK Minister S P Velumani and said they would therefore hold a demonstration ahead of the candidate's announcement.
This conflict in the DMK alliance has become a debatable topic in the political circles and thus created a tiff between Coimbatore DMK and Congress.
