Coimbatore: Election flying squad seize 11 boxes of liquor bottles taken without papers in Kovilpalayam next to Annur, during a vehicle search.
The election flying squad in Coimbatore led by special Tahsildar Mary Vanitha were conducting an intensive vehicle search in the Kovilpalayam area near Annur in Coimbatore district. The squad inspected a car and found eleven cartons full of liquor bottles with no relevant documents to transport them.
Subsequently, the flying squad seized the boxes and the car that was used for illegally transporting the consignment. Prabhakaran, (25), of Pathirikudi, Upper Street of Pudukottai district, was handed over to the Coimbatore divisional officer.
The urban local body elections in Tamil Nadu will be held in a single phase on February 19. In this context, flying squads and monitoring committees have been formed to prevent politicians from handing over money and gifts to voters.
Monitoring has been intensified in and around the city.
