Baby and her husband TMS Rajendran have filed a complaint at the Thadagam Police station demanding legal action on the private brick kiln owners for issuing death threats.
Coimbatore: The Thadagam police are investigating the complaint raised by Baby, wife of a social activist and complainant in Thadagam soil mining issue by illegal brick kilns.
According to the complaint, Baby wife of social activist TMS Rajendran was grazing cattle in her farmland near Thadagam, today morning. Subash and Suresh, owners of a private brick kiln named JJ Brick Kiln approached her and allegedly attempted to assault her. The duo also allegedly issued death threats to her and her family members for exposing illegal brick kilns in the area.
Reacting to the threat, public and social activists in the area have raised concern over safety of the people, especially social activists and environmentalists who have exposed the soil mining issues by illegal brick kiln operators and ultimately led to closure of over 100 such illegal brick kilns.
They also alleged that some brick kiln owners have been continuously on a spree of issuing death threats and damaging the properties of the activists. Recalling the recent scuffle between brick kiln owners and activist over a drone issue, they alleged that the police department and the District Administration should jointly intervene in the issue and put an end to the brutality of the brick kiln owners.
Earlier death threats were also issued to activists -- Ganesh, Dr. Ramesh and TMS Rajendran for filing case against illegal brick kiln owners operating in the Thadagam Velley.
Following the issue, Baby along with her husband TMS Rajendran have lodged a complaint with the Thadagam Police seeking protection and action against the private brick kiln owners for issuing death threats.
The victims in their complaint have stated that such assaults and death threats continues to be a recurring story, and hence demanded immediate legal action.
