The District Civil Supplies CID officers arrested a man for hoarding ration rice, while in a similar incident, the authorities are on the lookout for the culprit.
Coimbatore: Civil Supplies officers hunt down man for hoarding ration rice in Coimbatore. About 4,800 kg ration rice hoarded in Coimbatore has been recovered by the Food supply department officials on Monday, in two separate cases.
In the first case, the Civil Supplies Crime Investigation Officers have arrested a person who had been hoarding ration rice, purchased in bulk for sale to the guest workers at high prices.
Acting on a tip-off the Coimbatore civil supplies CID officials, district supply officer Maneka and police were patrolling the Thaneer Pandal road. Investigations revealed that Kannan had bought the PDS, Public Distribution System, rice at a low price from the people in and around Vilankurichi and sold it to the workers of the northern state at a higher price.
Subsequently, police seized about 3,700 kg of ration rice stored in the same area. They are looking for Kannan.
Similarly, in another incident, police led by district supply officers seized 1,100 kg of PDS rice, hoarded for the same reason. The rice was purchased for a lower price from the public and was sold at a higher price to the guest workers.
Police have arrested Sadham, and are carrying out investigations.
