Pollachi:A sudden crater in Pollachi Meenakarai road occurred as water pipeline broke, has put in danger the lives of road users.
Thousands of vehicles use the Pollachi Meenkarai NH every day. A water pipe broke in the middle of the road near the Kannappan Nagar bus stop and suddenly a 5-ft crater occurred in the road on Monday. The road users who took the road during the daytime had the luxury of taking a detour noticing the pit. The sinkhole still poses a potential threat to the road users.
The Public Works department officials are in the process of repairing roads. The Municipal officers stated that the crater occurred due to erosion after the main water pipe, that had been dug up to transport drinking water from the Ambarampalayam river bed to the municipality, broke.
Activists have demanded that the authorities act with precaution and not after calamity occurs.
