The locals in Nilgiris demanded that the forest department take necessary precaution after a youth was reportedly attacked by a gaur in Coonoor at around 5 pm on Monday, in which the victim survived with minor injuries
Nilgiris: A young man was attacked by a wild gaur near Coonoor and the video of the incident has gone viral, is creating a stir.
At around 5 pm on Monday, a gaur trespassed into a human habitat near Coonoor and attacked a youth leaving him with minor injuries. The animal reportedly entered Kanni Mariamman Kovil Street, behind the Coonoor bus stand and attacked the young man thrashing him with its horns. The public ran amok in fear. Fortunately, the youth survived with minor injuries. He was immediately rushed to the Coonoor Government Hospital for treatment.
As we are slipping into the summer season, it is anticipated that animals like bears, leopards, bison, and elephants, will venture out from the woods into the town, in search of food and water. The public has demanded that appropriate precautionary measures are introduced in the region to order to avoid man-animal conflict.
