Coimbatore: A team of officials of the Corporation flying squad seized Rs.1,83,700 lakh unaccounted cash during a vehicle check at Ward No:24 of Vilankurichi near Thaneer Pandhal here, on Sunday morning.
As there were no proper documents, the officials seized the cash and deposited in a sub treasury from where the owner of the cash can claim it after producing relevant documents, said sources fromthe corporation.
Following local body elections to be held on February 19, the election commission has stepped up vigil to control movement of cash or gifts. With model of conduct in effect, people are advised to carry supporting documents for cash above Rs. 50,000. A total of 69 flying squads are in place, of which 15 flying squads of Coimbatore Corporation will be conducting vehicle checks across 100 wards of the five zones.
