Coimbatore: The preparation of flags, posters and notices of political parties is in full swing in the city as parties prepare themselves for the urban local polls.
With the date announcement for the urban local body elections in Tamil Nadu, the mood is upbeat with the election preparations taken up by political parties who are contesting the elections. The urban local body elections will be held on February 19. The nomination process began on Friday, and will continue till 4th of February. Counting of votes is scheduled to take place on February 22.
Major political parties like DMK, AIADMK and BJP are chalking out coalition talks. Candidates are expected to be announced either by Saturday night or on Sunday.

Following the election announcement, the production and sale of flags of political parties in Coimbatore has picked up momentum. Flags of several political parties are manufactured and sold in shops in the Big Bazaar Street, at Townhall, and in Gandhipuram.
The sales were sluggish for the past two years due to the pandemic and the momentum now has given a ray of happiness to the sellers.
Moreover, since the symbols for independent candidates will be announced soon, the work of making flags for the respective symbols will commence soon, exhilarating those involved in the flag making. The flag makers said that once the alliance is confirmed, flags will be produced combining their respective party symbols.
Politicians on the other hand are also excited as, no matter the quantity of the orders, they have the order delivered by the flag makers on time. The flag makers, who have stitched the cloth in the required quantities, ready with screen printing machinery, are expecting to sell as per the needs of the politicians. It is anticipated that the sales will increase as the pressure will intensify in the next few days.
