Coimbatore: The gold appraiser working at the Lakshmi Vilas Bank has been held for laundering ₹32 lakh cash with the help of customers using fake gold jewellery.
The city’s Crime branch police have arrested the gold appraiser working at the Lakshmi Vilas Bank in Coimbatore who embezzled cash using the bank customers. Reportedly, Jayashankar, a gold appraiser, approached the bank's customers to help him mortgage the jewellery, telling them that he cannot pawn his family's jewellery, himself, as he works in his bank.
The accused mortgaged fake jewellery through the customers who came forward to help him. The Crime Branch police arrested Jayashankar based on a complaint from the bank.
The incident has come as a shock.
