Coimbatore: Stepping up vigil against distribution of cash or gifts to voters during local body elections, 15 flying squads have been formed in Coimbatore district. With model of conduct already in effect, all political parties have been apprised of the rules and regulations, especially regarding carrying of cash above Rs.50,000
In a bid to ensure fair elections, every zone has been allocated three flying squad comprising of a zonal election officer, an assistant zonal election officer, two paramilitary personnel and a police personnel have commenced to check vehicles at all major spots in the city. The round-the- clock squad will be on patrol at all times until the elections, the Commissioner noted.

The officials interrogated Sadhakaththullah (42) from Dindigul and two others in the car. Later, it came to light that Sadhakaththullah was carrying the cash along with his relatives to register a land in Coimbatore. However, as he could not provide proper documents, the flying squad team seized the cash.
The officials told that after producing sufficient documents, the owner of the cash can claim it.
Earlier on Friday, the Corporation Commissioner and District Election Officer Rajagopal Sunkara chaired an elaborate meet at the District Collectorate which was attended by members of political parties and briefed them on election code of conduct especially restrictions on carrying cash.
