Coimbatore: A consultative meeting on election code of conduct was held in Collectorate on Friday.
A ban has been imposed on political campaigns and election programs till January 31 in Coimbatore, ahead of the local polls. A meeting was held on Friday under the chairmanship of the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Raja Gopal Sunkara with recognized political party representatives on the urban local body election code of conduct. The Commissioner presented the clarification on the activities, election restrictions and discussed about the Covid norms to be followed.
During the meeting, the Commissioner stated that 'An election monitoring officer will be appointed soon.'
The Covid guidelines to be followed were clarified through the video conference on Thursday and only two vehicles are allowed to accompany the person arriving to file nominations. Similarly, the person filing nomination alone is allowed inside the office and the candidates will be let inside one after another.
He added that, as per the election code of conduct, campaigns and political party programs for elections have been banned till January 31. After 31st of January, the internal meetings should be held with only 100 members. Candidates going to the campaign will only be allowed to take just two people with them.
The CCMC Commissioner insisted on following the corona regulations. 'We should hold the elections keeping in mind that the High Court is taking serious note of how we adhere to the corona prevention norms.'
