The Urban local body elections are to be held in Tamil Nadu, in February and as part of the Election Code of Conduct, posters of political party leaders like CM M K Stalin, late CM Karunanidhi were removed.
Coimbatore: The Election Code of Conduct has been implemented in Coimbatore following the announcement of the Urban polls date in Tamil Nadu.
The Madras High Court ordered a no-ban on holding urban local body elections in Tamil Nadu. The State Election Commissioner, Palanikumar subsequently announced the date of the Urban local body elections, on Wednesday evening. The elections will be held in a single phase on February 19. Hence, the Election Code of Conduct was immediately implemented on behalf of the District administration in Coimbatore.
Accordingly, the posters of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin and late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, as well as advertisements on the Government's schemes were removed.
Posters of political leaders in areas like Ukkadam Town Hall and Avinashi Road in Coimbatore were also removed by Corporation employees. In addition, the names of political leaders have also been erased from walls in public places.
The Corporation employees also removed the banners of political party leaders pasted on the pillars of the newly constructed flyover on Avinashi Road.
