Corporation sources stated that more than 3000 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been arranged for the urban local body elections to be held soon in the city.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation sources have stated that more than 3000 electronic voting machines have been arranged for the urban local body elections that is to be held soon in the city.
A Corporation source stated, "1,290 polling stations, 3,612 machines and 1,548 ballot control units will be used in areas under Coimbatore Corporation. While the Corporation has finalised the polling booths, 169 out of 1,290 booths have been identified sensitive.”
The Corporation administration has decided to use cameras to broadcast elections live, at each of these polling booths. At present, the Corporation is in the process of ensuring those eligible for voting are enrolled in the voters’ list by contacting them in the streets and wards after reviewing the electoral rolls.
As of January, the Corporation has 15.61 lakh voters out of which 7.80 lakh are men, 7.81 lakh women and 297 third gender voters. Sources said the Corporation administration will send the electoral rolls of Coimbatore corporation to the State Election Commission once the Municipal administration completes the election process. With 20 election officers for 100 wards, the results of the study will be submitted to the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation as per the results of their survey.
The Corporation is also in the process of allotting rooms for vote counting centres set up at the Government Technical College on Thadagam Road. Sources also said that the Corporation is planning to conduct the counting of votes on a zonal basis.
