Local Body Elections will take place on 19/02/2022 and results will be announced on 22/02/2022. It is to be noted that local body elections were not conducted at all during the last regime of the AIADMK govt.
Coimbatore: The municipal local body elections are to be held in a single phase across Tamil Nadu. Nomination will be accepted from 28th January.
Last date for candidates to file nominations is 4th February. Review of nomination petitions will be done on 5th February and 7th February is the deadline for candidates to withdraw their nominations. On the same day, the list of eligible candidates contesting in the elections will be made official. Voting will take place on 19th February. Votes will be counted between 22nd and 24th February. Elected candidates will take an oath on 2nd March. On 4th March, indirect election for mayors will be held.
An official announcement is made about the COVID-19 rules that candidates need to follow during campaign. As part of the prescribed guidelines, everyone who is part of campaigning must wear a mask. Crowding is strictly not permitted. Sanitizer must be placed in front of all offices and visitors must be encouraged to use it. Only three persons are permitted to campaign door-to-door. Furthermore, it is also made official that legal action will be taken against those who do not follow the guidelines.
It is conveyed that those with COVID-19 symptoms will be permitted to vote from 5pm to 6pm. All agents should be vaccinated with both doses of the vaccine against coronavirus. A co-ordinating officer should be appointed in all districts. Officials who will be on election duty will be trained online as far as possible.
