The 73rd Republic Day celebration was held at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore in which the significance of agriculture and the need to improve profit were discussed.

The Republic Day celebration was held in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, TNAU on 26th January 2022. Dr. A. S. Krishnamoorthy, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) unfurled the national flag and delivered the Republic Day address.
The acting Vice-Chancellor in his address recalled the eternal memories of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives giving us a lease of life. He appreciated all the faculty members and the students of TNAU for receiving three National Awards viz., Green and Clean Campus Award for Main campus, PG Fellowship awards (second position) under Horticulture and Forestry and Agricultural Engineering groups from Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
He congratulated the five students comprising of two M.Sc., and 3 Ph.D., in Plant Pathology who were selected under MITACS programme sponsored by Indo-Canadian Shastri Institute, New Delhi, two students have bagged the prestigious Prime Minister of India Fellowships in Nano technology and another sixty nine TNAU students who got ICAR JRF fellowships.
Further, he mentioned that university retained its eighth position under ICAR ranking and stood as second best State Agricultural University of South India.
He also stated the importance of agriculture and insisted upon developing the profits of agriculture. He praised the farmers who toil to feed the global population and the contribution done by each and every one for the development. The resilience of the arming community in the face of adversities made agriculture the only sector to have clocked a positive growth of 3.4 per cent at constant prices in 2020-21, when other sectors slid. The share of agriculture in GDP increased to 19.9 per cent in 2020-21 from 17.8 per cent in 2019-20. The last time the contribution of the agriculture sector in GDP was at 20 per cent was in 2003-04. Despite the pandemic, agriculture sector reached its accolade.
He further emphasised the fact that how the agriculture resounded back as the impact of Covid-19 and he positively added that, “Revolve to evolve to sustain in the days to come”.
