A section of members of the city trade unions went on a two-wheeler rally in the city from Power House junction to Thiruvalluvar Bus Stand in Gandhipuram.
Coimbatore: A section of members of the trade unions in the city held a two-wheeler rally in Coimbatore on the occasion of Republic Day on Wednesday.
On the occasion of Republic Day celebrations, all the trade unions in Coimbatore jointly took out a two wheeler rally from Coimbatore Power House to Gandhipuram Thiruvalluvar Bus Stand. The respective trade union flags were carried by the participants. Subsequently, an oath-undertaking was taken to propose the demands that will be pressed for during the general strike that is scheduled to be held on February 23 and 24 in front of Thiruvalluvar Bus Stand.
The pledge was taken to press for various demands, including "drop all four labour law packages, do not privatise public sector undertakings, reduce excise duty on petroleum products, provide relief of Rs.7,500 per month to families who do not have enough income to pay income tax, and pay permanent equal wages to contract workers".
It is to be noted that the two-wheeler rally was held in violation of police permission.
