Coimbatore: The police officers arrested the members of Marumalarchi Makkal Iyakkam who attempted to go on a rally for the Republic Day, despite denial of permission.
A procession on behalf of the Marumalarchi Makkal Iyakkam on the occasion of Republic Day of India was stopped by the police officers. The party had planned for a rally which was scheduled to be flagged-off at Sundarapuram.
When the police refused permission to hold the rally, led by the Coordinator V Eswaran, the members tried to march holding portraits of the leaders in their hands.
Subsequently, the police officers arrested the members. Voices condemning the police and the government were raised.
