Coimbatore: A 42-year-old woman was crushed to death when a truck trying to overtake the two-wheeler she was on, crashed into the vehicle near Perianaickenpalayam.
In a horrifying incident, Sumathi (42) from Masakkalipayam was crushed to death after a truck that tried to overtake the two-wheeler she was on, crashed into the vehicle near Perianaickenpalayam on Monday. Sumathi and her husband Duraipandian (46) were heading towards Coimbatore from Perianaickenpalayam after inviting relatives for a family function scheduled to be held on January 27.
Due to a bus that overtook the truck when it was trying to overtake the two-wheeler near Perianaickenpalayam, the truck driver veered to the left and ended up crashing into Duraipandian's two-wheeler.
While a shocked Duraipandian failed to balance the two-wheeler and fell on the ground, Sumathi fell to the right and her body was trapped between the wheels of the truck. Her whole body was mutilated resulting in her tragic death on the spot. The driver of the truck fled the scene.
On learning about the accident, the Perianaickenpalayam police rushed to the spot and sent Sumathi's remains to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem. They rescued Duraipandian who miraculously survived with minor injuries.
