Tirupur: The forest department have launched a hunt for a leopard that attacked two persons in Avinashi as it plunged into a maize garden early on Monday morning.
Varadarajan (63), of Papankulam near Avinashi and another labourer, Maran, (66), were attacked by a leopard on Monday and both sustained serious injuries.
Reportedly, Varadharajan who owns a maize field has been carrying out harvesting for the past two days along with helper, Maran. The two, as usual early this morning, were involved in the agriculture work, when a leopard plunged into the garden attacking Varadarajan on his shoulder and Maran was injured on his face.
The neighbours immediately informed the Sevur police after hearing their cries for help. The Tirupur divisional forest department, Sevur police and revenue department have visited the spot and a search is launched for the leopard.
The two injured were given first aid at Avinashi Government Hospital and sent to Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
