The city police arrested a BJP functionary over the allegation of forcefully installing the portrait of PM Modi at the Pooluvampatti Panchayat office, despite the refusal of the town panchayat official.
Coimbatore: The district head of trade union of BJP, Baskaran was arrested for placing PM Modi’s portrait at the Panchayat office in Pooluvampatti.
The Pooluvampatti Town Panchayat office in Coimbatore Thondamuthur Union seemed chaotic on Saturday as BJP functionaries and panchayat officials had an argument over installing the portrait of Prime Minister Modi in the office.
Reportedly, on Saturday, the BJP trader union district president Baskaran and team stormed into the Pooluvampatti Town Pachayat office and installed the portrait of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which the Town Panchayat Secretary and employees strongly opposed.
The Panchayat officials also raised complaints that the group entered the office without wearing any face masks. The BJP men at a point forcefully hung the portrait and shouted slogans inside the office.
The video footage of the incident has gone viral on social media. Executive Officer Rangasamy filed a complaint against the BJP with the Alanthurai police. The BJP trade union workers district president Baskaran, and the youth secretary Murugesan, were booked under three sections including, for trespassing, installing the photograph, and threatening and preventing government employees from working.
The Alanthurai police arrested and imprisoned Baskaran on Monday morning.
