Coimbatore: The local police arrested the gutkha trader who was hiding near Eachanari. The Kinathukadavu Police launched a search operation for the prime accused in the illegal gutkha hoarding case, arrested him near Eachanari based on the secret tip-off received.
The Kinathukadavu police received a tip-off that a house in Kamarajar area of Kinathukadavu area was stocked with banned gutkha tobacco products, and in the subsequent raid, the police found about 133-kg of gutkha hoarded for sale.
One was arrested, while the prime accused fled from the scene. The police were actively searching for him. The search squad received information on Sunday of his presence near a tea stall near Eachanari by-pass.
The accused, identified as Arun Kumar was nabbed by police and investigation revealed that the accused is a native of Nallampalli village near Dharmapuri. He is a resident of Sundarapuram near Coimbatore and procured vegetables in bulk from Bengaluru and supplied them to vegetable shops in Coimbatore.
Further investigation revealed that he purchased tobacco from Bengaluru when he visited the city to procure vegetables and is involved in supplying the banned substance in Kinathukadavu area.
