Government liquor shops remain closed in Tamil Nadu during curfew on Sunday, and sale of liquor through black markets is common. The East Division Police received a tip-off that liquor bottles were being hoarded and sold illicitly near Pollachi Kottur Road.
Acting on the tip-off, police led by Sub-Inspector Thirumalai, constables Vijay Suresh and Johnson stepped up vigil in the area, secretly. Thangamani of Erode was arrested for hoarding and sale of alcohol near Omprakash Theatre.
About 174 bottles stacked in sacks were seized and investigation is underway.
