The Pollachi police trapped a goods vehicle and moped used to sneak ration rice to Kerala, seizing 2 tonnes of the rice and arrested three people involved
Pollachi: About 2 tonnes of rice meant for Public Distribution System (PDS), was confiscated, when an attempt to smuggle it to neighbouring state of Kerala was made. The rice was transported under essential vehicle tag. The police subsequently arrested those involved in the incident on Sunday.
The Civil Supplies CID unit, received information that ration rice is being smuggled to Kerala incessantly through Pollachi and villages around, especially in the name of essential commodity vehicles during curfews.
A team led by Inspector Gopinath during a vehicle search near Sendrampalayam Bridge near Nadupuni stopped the goods vehicle with Kerala registration number. Upon investigation the vehicle was found transporting ration rice illegally to Kerala.

In the search the team found 40 bags of ration rice weighing about 50 kg. Investigations revealed that the ration rice was purchased for a low cost from Pollachi and was being smuggled to Kerala. The driver, Rajamansoor Ali (38), was arrested.
Manikandan (35) and Sakthivel (36), who were pilots on the moped, were also arrested for their involvement in smuggling the rice.
