Coimbatore: The BJP Women Wing National Chief Vanathi Srinivasan participated and presided over the ‘Namo Pongal’ celebrations hosted here in the city.

‘Namo Pongal’ was celebrated on behalf of BJP at Gandhipark Ponnayarajapuram area of Coimbatore. The function was inaugurated by BJP State President Annamalai.

Hundreds of women participated and cooked Pongal at the function.

As part of the celebrations, traditional art programmes were organised.

Several party functionaries, including BJP Women's National President Vanathi Srinivasan, were present on the occasion.

Talking to newspersons here, BJP State President Annamalai expressing joy, stated that 208 women took part in the function in R S Puram. He said he is happy that many young women were present.

He informed that governments in states which are recording high cases of coronavirus infection, have imposed restrictions, but have permitted the opening of places of worship. The BJP leader alleged that the Tamil Nadu Government never believed in people and imposed a lockdown and has also shut down temples on the major festival days like Thaipoosam.

He stated that temples can be opened on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with restrictions. The State President of BJP accused that the DMK Government distributed the Pongal package being fully aware of the poor quality of items and questioned when the Chief Minister would take action against ministers and officials who are responsible for the same.Replying to a question on the law on central government taking over IAS and IPS officers, he said the centre had decided to do so, on its own.

Vanathi Srinivasan has asked for a CBI inquiry into the suicide of Ariyalur student, adding that the girl's suicide is understood to have been induced. “It is funny that the district SP says he has no idea without arresting those responsible. If this is the case, how will people have confidence on the police?” Annamalai therefore asked the police to let go of the person who shot the girl's statement and examine the truth.
