The people living in Jyoti Nagar area in Pollachi are at the high risk of Covid-19 spread as they throng trucks carrying water due to the faulty water reservoir in the area.
Pollachi: The water tank placed in Jyoti Nagar area in Pollachi has become faulty and thus people in the area rush to fetch water as soon as truck transporting water arrives in the vicinity. This has increased the risk of infection spread.
Pollachi Municipality has 36 wards. Water is transported and supplied by municipal lorry to most of the wards which do not have water connections. Plastic tanks with a capacity of 5,000-litres have been placed in the respective wards for drinking water, supply, which is meant for public use.
More than 200 families live in ward 35 Amaidhi Nagar. There are two water storage plastic tanks with a capacity of 5,000-litres. However, both the tanks are damaged leading to water leakage. The public has been fetching water in trucks for more than a year. The locals are forced to carry water for a long distance.
With Covid-19 rapidly spreading in the town, the residents are at the risk of infection spread. The government is advising various measures to control the spread of the disease, but it is a pity that this location is overcrowded and the public does not follow covid appropriate behaviour.

The public has demanded that the municipal administration takes immediate steps to set up new water tanks as this will solve the water problem of the area and the public will be able to adhere to covid-19 guidelines, while fetching water.
