The BJP launched a hunger strike seeking the Tamil Nadu Government to provide subsidy for yarn, in order to deal with the increasing price of yarn
Tirupur: More than 100 people from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are on a hunger strike at the Pushpa Signal Junction in Tirupur, seeking subsidy for yarn from the Tamil Nadu Government.
The price of yarn, prime raw material for the knitwear sector, the main occupation of Tirupur has been on the rise for more than 6 months, causing many-a-troubles for the hosiery industry.
In order to bring this to the centre and state governments’ attention, the hosiery industry has been hosting a series of measures, with the hope of being offered respite.
In this regard, a one-day hunger strike is underway on behalf of the BJP in Tirupur starting Friday morning. Protestors urge the state government to provide subsidies for yarn and cotton. More than 100 people participated on behalf of the BJP.
The hunger strike will continue till the evening
