Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Collector issued orders to impose the Goondas Act on the accused who has been imprisoned for smuggling public distribution system rice to Kerala.
The District Collector has ordered the imprisoning of a person who was involved in a series of ration rice smuggling from Coimbatore to Kerala under the Prevention of Goondas Act. The arrested will be imprisoned for a year under the act, according to the orders.
Mohammed Hussain (42), of Pallivasal Road, Karumbukkadai, Coimbatore, who was involved in smuggling ration rice was arrested.
Based on the plea made by the anti-food trafficking police, District Collector Sameeran ordered that Mohammed Hussain be imprisoned under the Goondas Act for one year.
