Coimbatore: Ahead of the local polls, the State Election Commission has directed the District Collector GS Sameeran to identify the hotspots and also set up control rooms to receive complaints during the elections.
In the meeting held with the District Collectors, the Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran, District Election Officer from Coimbatore, Deputy Commissioner Sharmila and the Election Wing participated on behalf of the Corporation. The Commission has stated that the local body elections will be held in a single phase.
The District Election Commission has also been directed to identify the most sensitive booths and arrange police security. A separate 'control room' should be set up for Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and Town Panchayats at the earliest, to receive election related complaints.
Flying squads should be on standby to prevent payment of money for votes. The committees are advised to be on duty from the date of announcement of the election date.
As the preparations for the urban local body elections are over, the State Election Commission held discussions with all the political parties. The Commission trained the Principal Instructors through video conferencing, in which they were educated about how to perform tasks like receiving nominations, reviewing, uploading the property list of candidates online, preparing tickets and allocating symbols, etc. It is advised to conduct training one more time.
