Coimbatore: A petition has been submitted under the leadership of Member of Parliament (MP), PR Natarajan of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), seeking the District Administration to revoke the Suez Drinking Water Scheme in Coimbatore.

MP PR Natarajan led Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) to submit a petition seeking cancellation of the Suez Drinking Water Scheme by the District Administration in Coimbatore.

Addressing reporters, PR Natarajan stated that, the Suez drinking water scheme for Coimbatore, a 26-year project, received huge public objection for implementation, during the AIADMK regime while SP Velumani was the Minister here, when there was no selection of Coimbatore Municipal Council.
Led by DMK, the then opposition party, all the parties, joined forces to register a protest against the implementation of the drinking water scheme. The dangers posed by Suez were highlighted to the public by the Communist Party of India (Marxist). PR Natarajan stated that the drinking water for Coimbatore city should be provided through the Government's Water Supply Canal Board and not by private companies.
The AIADMK made the arrangement in Coimbatore stating the project was not implemented anywhere in India. Highlighting DMK’s statement to cancel the project after coming to power, Natrajan demanded cancellation of the project.
Stating that the (CPI(M)) will continue to protest until the Suez project is revoked, he informed that he welcomed that the government in power is functioning in people’s favour.
