Mangalam Police arrest Headmistress of Government School in Tirupur after dismissal of pre-bail petition and lodged her in Coimbatore Central Jail.
Tirupur: The Government school headmistress who had been suspended in Tirupur after a complaint was lodged against her on December 17 for allegedly forcing students to clean school toilets and hurling caste slurs on students was arrested in Tirupur.
In the highly controversial incident at the Government High School campus in Iduvai area of Tirupur district, Ramesh, the district's Primary Education Officer who had questioned the school headmistress Geeta about her alleged discriminatory behaviour, also suspended her.
Saravanakumar, a member of the Awareness and Monitoring Committee of the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department, lodged a complaint against Geetha at the Mangalam Police Station in Tirupur. Following the complaint, a case was registered and the police launched an investigation. Geetha meanwhile had filed a petition at the Chennai High Court seeking pre-bail from the Chief Justice. The petition was heard by the Tirupur District High Court Judge, Sornam Natarajan on the advice of the Court. The prosecution argued that bail should not be granted to Geetha before prosecution. Under these circumstances, the pre-bail plea was dismissed and hence Geetha was arrested by the Mangalam police on Wednesday and taken to the Coimbatore Central Jail.
