Arokiasamy Vincent Raj, known as ‘Evidence’ Kathir, has been selected for the prestigious 2022 Raoul Wallenberg Prize given by the European Council in recognition of his exemplary work for defending the rights of dalits and tribal people in TN.
Arokiasamy Vincent Raj, known as ‘Evidence’ Kathir, has been selected for the prestigious 2022 Raoul Wallenberg Prize given by the European Council.
Madurai: Kathir is the Founder of Evidence, a Maduri-based organisation that defends the rights of dalit and tribal people in Tamil Nadu. He has helped several victims of caste crimes including honour killing. He is known for extensively collecting data and evidence to save the voiceless subjected to brutal caste violence and accusations.
In recognition of his exemplary work in this field, the European Council has conferred Kathir with the prestigious "Raoul Wallenberg Prize" a joint initiative of Swedish government and the Hungarian Parliament in memory of Raoul Wallenberg for his efforts to save Jewish lives during the Holocaust and World War 2.
Due to the pandemic, an online award ceremony will take place on January 19 today. Post pandemic he would be collecting the award fro France along with a honorarium of 10,000 Euros.
