Coimbatore: Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, the Coimbatore International Airport which serves the aviation needs of locals as well as people from its surrounding seven districts usually registers over 25 lakh passenger footfall every year, before the pandemic outbreak.
The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected both passenger and freight services at the Coimbatore International Airport. As per the official data, from January till December 2021, 12,76,426 passengers have used the airport. Among this, 12,24,492 passengers are from the domestic sector and 51,934 passengers are from the international sector.
A few months ago in the latter half of 2021, the airport started witnessing steady increase in terms of passenger footfall. But with the outbreak of the third wave amidst the Omicron spread, freight and passenger services have been adversely affected.
