Coimbatore: The Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a protest against the denial of permission to a Tamil Nadu vehicle during the Delhi Republic Day march. The denial of permission for a Tamil Nadu government vehicle to take part in a Republic Day rally in Delhi has come as a shock to many.
There were photographs of V. O. Chidambaram Pillai, Velu Nachiyar in the vehicle. According to sources who is aware of the developments, permission was denied to the vehicle because many do not know who V.O. Chidambaram Pillai and Velu Nachiyar are. Therefore, various parties and organizations have been publicly condemning this move of the central government.
A similar protest was staged on behalf of the Communist Party of India at the Coimbatore South Taluk Office.
More than 20 participants carried banners with photographs of Bharathiyar, V.O. Chidambaram Pillai, Subhash Chandra Bose, Velu Nachiyar and Narayana Guru and chanted slogans condemning the Central Government.
Protesters denounced the central government for deliberately ignoring Tamil Nadu, saying it could never be accepted. Demonstrators also said they saw the federal government's move as a "disgrace to the community."
