Coimbatore: The founder of Puthiya Tamilagam Party, Krishnasamy has demanded that the theme recommended for the Delhi parade by Tamil Nadu has to be revealed to analyse the reason behind its rejection.
Addressing the media here on Monday, the Puthiya Tamilagam Party President, Krishnasamy expressed his disappointment over the non-inclusion of a display of the Tamil freedom fighters in the vehicles for the Republic Day parade.
A parade is held in Delhi every year on Republic Day in which the procession of vehicles highlight legacies, contributions and sacrifices of freedom fighters. This year, however, the parade will not showcase the martyrs from Tamil Nadu.
“There were no vehicles bearing the histories of Subhash Chandra Bose and Rabindranath Tagore in West Bengal, or Narayana Guru's in the Kerala parade vehicle. The State Government should not be short-minded in an event that will be globally witnessed, highlighting the unity of India as a democratic republic and it was unfair on the part of the Tamil Nadu Government to have a narrow perspective. Vehicles carrying the legacies of Tamil freedom fighters were allowed for the parade from 2018 to 2021, which has now been rejected.
Velunachiyar and Chidamabaram were undisputedly major contributors in the independence fight and there is a committee that analyses the kinds of parade vehicle, and hence we need to know the reason for the rejection this time," demanded Krishnasamy.
He asked for the theme proposed by the TN Government to be revealed and wanted the shortcomings from the State’s side to be analysed. "The Tamil Nadu Government has to reveal what has gone wrong in Tamil Nadu. It was not appropriate to say that Tamil Nadu was ignored without making it clear to the people what was shared by the Government of Tamil Nadu. And, Mamata Banerjee trying to politicise this in West Bengal was completely inappropriate. If the legacies of Bharathiyar, VOC and Marudhu Pandiyar were shared clearly, then this has to be communicated to the people of Tamil Nadu," demanded Krishnasamy.
He then highlighted that the sale of river sand has to be stopped in the State and M Sand is currently in circulation. Due to this, major water sources for the State, including rivers like Cauvery Thamirabarani have dried up due to soil extraction using the poclaine machine without any procedure, he added. Demanding that the Government should not let the resuming of sand quarries in Tamil Nadu, Krishnasamy stated that the previous Government had put a ban on this, while some earned in crores smuggling it to neighbouring states and Maldives but never used for the people of Tamil Nadu.
