A full curfew is in place today, for the second Sunday, as a measure to control the spread of coronavirus and omicron variant in Tamil Nadu. Milk distribution and dispensaries operated in the town and all other shops that are not in the essential category are closed today. All the main streets were deserted without movement of people and vehicles.
Police have intensified day and night surveillance at all the seven check posts including at Gopalapuram and Govindapuram, the state borders. Police have stepped up surveillance by setting up temporary check posts on all major roads including Udumalpet Road, District Link Roads, Meenkarai Road. Police are imposing fines on those violating the lockdown norms.
Due to the full lockdown, the usual practice of visiting temples with the kith and kin, was not possible this year on Kaanum Pongal, and the public were confined to their homes.
