Coimbatore: The city police department have intensified surveillance as the second Sunday full curfew is in place in Coimbatore and are sending back home, those who step out sans any valid reason.
Night curfew and Sunday lockdown have been imposed in TN to reduce the spread of Covid-19, in the wake of the third wave. A total of 700 police personnel have been deployed and 45 checkpoints have been set up to monitor movement of people and vehicles.
Roads including Trichy Road, Mettupalayam Road, Avinashi Road, and Pollachi Road looked deserted. Similarly, shops in major bazaars like Ukkadam, Rangae Gowder Road, Town Hall, Gandhipuram, and Singanallur are closed.
Police are keeping a close watch across the city and informed that a case would be registered against those roaming outside for unnecessary reasons. Meanwhile, the City Police Commissioner said that the police will not be involved in violence against those violating curfew norms and would help those coming out for legitimate reasons.
