The Kinathukadavu police are on the lookout for a five-member gang who stole ₹ 20-lakh from a stone quarry owner posing as an Income Tax officials, in the pretext of raiding his home.
Coimbatore: A stone quarry owner was duped of ₹ 20-lakh cash in Kinathukadavu on Saturday by a five-member gang who posed as officials from the Income Tax department.
Panchalingam, a resident of Gandhinagar in Kinathukadavu lodged a complaint with the Kinathukadavu Police stating he was swindled ₹ 20-lakh cash, by a mysterious gang who introduced themselves as officials from the Income Tax department.
Reportedly, the gang arrived at his home on Saturday afternoon and approached Panchalingam, a stone quarry owner, stating they were from the Income Tax office and informed him that the purpose of the visit was to raid the house. The gang reportedly produced identity cards.
Panchalingam let them in, upon witnessing their ID cards and a car. However, the gang, fled from the house sweeping off the ₹ 20-lakh cash, which Panchalingam stored in his bureau in his home.
Upon his complaint, the Police arrived at the spot and interrogated Panchalingam and his daughter. The CCTV footage and the Pollachi-Coimbatore check posts are being studied in a bid to nab the gang.
The gang has also taken the hard disk of the surveillance camera from his house and the leaves of cheques from Panchalingam’s house.
