More than 4-lakh guest workers from various states including Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, UP, Assam are employed in Tirupur knitting and related areas. They stay and work for months and then return to their hometowns only once or twice a year.
Due to the increase in the number of corona infections in Tamil Nadu in the last few days, Sunday curfew and night curfew have been declared. Will the curfew come again? Fearing return to their hometowns, workers are flocking to railway stations.
As a result, the Tirupur railway station is overcrowded. Outside the booking center, guest workers lined up in long queues to book tickets early in the morning.
