Coimbatore: The DMK and multi-religious society together hosted a Pongal celebration in RS Puram in which people from various religions and castes participated surpassing the religious barriers, on Friday.
Hindu, Muslim and Christian people living in RS Puram came together to celebrate the ‘Tamil’ festival Pongal, transcending their religion here at the ‘Samathuva Pongal’ celebrations.
The event was co-hosted by The Multi-Religious Relations Mission and The Hindu Temple Priest, Islamic Haji, Church Priest and inter-caste, interreligious families participated.
The Multi-Religious Relations Movement Chief Mohammad Rafiq stated, "Religious conflict and atrocities against minorities are taking place in the northern states and various parts of India. Tamil Nadu supports Dravidianism and creates a balance maintaining equality. The Samathuva Pongal celebrated in Tamil Nadu is once again a declaration to the world of upholding this.”
He added that though Samathuva Pongal is celebrated for many years now, the times have shown the need for this.
The event was celebrated with joy by Hindus, Islam, and Christians and they expressed gratitude to the farmers observing this Samathuva Pongal, establishing equality across language, caste, and religion.
