The District Supply Officer, Sivakumari, Perur Taluk Supply Officer Mohanraj went on a vehicle search at Puttuvikki road, upon receiving information that ration rice was being smuggled from Coimbatore to Kerala.
The team, at 4 pm while searching vehicles passing through the road stopped a vehicle on suspicion. The drivers, however upon noticing the checking officers fled from the spot leaving the vehicle stranded.
The officers seized the truck and recovered 1,300-kg of ration rice that was taken to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Depot at Poosaripalayam in Coimbatore, officials informed.
