Tirupur: The Tirupur Corporation Commissioner, Kranthi Kumar Pati distributed cloth bags to the public who visited the vegetable market to create awareness for a plastic-free environment on Thursday.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has been taking various steps to eliminate the usage of plastics in Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister M K Stalin has introduced the cloth bags (Meendum Manjapai) scheme as an alternative to plastic bags and directed all District authorities to create awareness among the public about the ill-effects of using plastic bags.
The Tirupur District administration and the Corporation have taken various measures to diligently eliminate plastic bags in the city.
In line with the efforts, the Tirupur Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Kranthi Kumar Pati distributed cloth bags to the public who visited the Thennampalayam market to buy vegetables. He also advised everyone to wear their masks and maintain strict social distancing since the third wave of Covid-19 has been spreading across the nation.
Over 500 people were given cloth bags.
