Coimbatore: The culture of injecting painkillers as narcotics to reach the peak of intoxication among college students and youth in Coimbatore has been on the rise recently. The culture has spread among the youth since the pills cannot be detected by parents and the police.
The police have been patrolling the city to nab the drug peddlers who have been targeting young people. The police patrol had earlier arrested 14 people, including two women, for hoarding and selling drugs in the city.
The Race Course Police led by Sub-Inspector Vignesh patrolled through Valankulam and found two youth standing suspiciously by the wayside. One of them saw the police and fled but the police managed to nab the other youth. The police confiscated 50 pills and injections from the spot. The youth was later taken to a police station where he was interrogated.
He has been identified as Saddam Hussein (29) of Indira Nagar, near Ratnapuri. He was later produced in Court by the police and lodged in jail. Police are searching for the youth identified as Masilamani who had fled the scene on seeing the police.
