The city police have arrested the BJP Youth Wing Secretary and 7 party members have been booked after a video of them assaulting a Palladam-based banana vendor for his alleged criticism of Prime Minister Modi went viral.
Tirupur: Seven members of BJP were booked and the youth Wing Secretary has been arrested for assaulting a banana vendor for criticizing Modi.
Video footage of BJP functionaries severely assaulting a banana vendor in Palladam for allegedly criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral on the internet and the police have registered a case against seven Bharatiya Janata Party members.
PM Modi’s security breach, during his visit to Punjab on Jan 5th, for about 20 minutes on a flyover created a stir throughout the nation, and the Prime Minister cancelled his program subsequently. BJP cadres have been staging protests condemning this across the nation. A human chain protest was held on behalf of the BJP Minority Wing in Coimbatore on Wednesday.
Reportedly, a trolley-seller took a dig at Prime Minister Modi during the BJP agitation in Palladam in counter to which, the enraged BJP lot assaulted the seller. The victim was chased by the attackers as he ran for his life, despite, the attempts of the police to stop the BJP men.
However, the banana vendor was severely attacked and collapsed on the spot as some BJP functionaries defied the police and attacked the man, after which the police also evicted the assaulters and rescued the victim.
Investigation revealed that the victim is Muthusamy of the Ammapalayam area next to Palladam and was selling bananas in a trolley in the same area.
He also confessed that he never criticized Modi, but requested the BJP men to move away after their agitation was over, as he was unable to move forward with his trolley. The party members attacked him for this reason in a fit of rage.
Police investigated the incident and registered a case against seven BJP members. They have also arrested Ramesh, the party's Youth Wing Secretary.
The incident has caused a lot of shock and tension in the area. The women were also panic-stricken as the assaulters brutally attacked him in front of the public and police.
