Coimbatore: The construction of the flyover near GN Mills on the road from Coimbatore to Mettupalayam has been going on for almost 3 years.
Motorists are going through that without knowing if the flyover can be used or not. The Athikadavu drinking water pipe runs near the GN Mills bus stop via the National Highway. This drinking water pipe broke several months ago. Millions of litters of drinking water is being wasted due to this.
According to the Coimbatore District Road Safety Association, riding or driving on this road can lead to many diseases, including heart disease. There has also been a breakdown of vehicles. There are pits in many places on the road where the drinking water pipe is broken. Road users have repeatedly reported the hardship they face, on WhatsApp with photo and video proof. They lamented that no action had been taken by the Drinking Water Drainage Board, the National Highways Department or the district administration.
Recently, a differently-abled from Coimbatore got stuck with his cart in a sudden well near GN Mills. The public who saw it rescued him safely. About a kilometre behind it, vehicles were stuck in traffic. Similarly, when an old man was driving his car, he stopped the car near a sudden well on the road. A member of the public then drove the car from the spot.
The Coimbatore District Road Safety Association said that the district administration should take appropriate action in this regard.
