Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited Rs. 447.32 crore Government Medical College Hospital at the Hindustan Photo Films in Ooty, in Nilgiris district.
The Nilgiris: A medical college is being built at the erstwhile Hindustan Photo Films campus in Ooty, Nilgiris District on 25 acres of land owned by the Forest Department and 15 acres owned by the Department of Animal Husbandry, totalling 40 acres. Unlike other districts, the Medical College is being built as a ground floor and first-floor facility in Ooty.
The new Government Medical College Hospital will comprise specialized treatment centers such as biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, library, pathology, operating theaters, emergency department, anesthesiology, and a high-tech testing center. In addition, residential facilities such as principal's quarters, nurses' quarters and student dormitories are being set up.
In the three campuses, the hospital campus is being built in 8 sections. It includes an intensive care unit, physiotherapy unit, high-quality mortuaries, medical college students facility, a 1200-seat auditorium for doctors and 108 vehicle control rooms. The Medical College was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today through video conferencing.
Tamil Nadu Forest Minister K Ramachandran, BJP National Women's Wing leader and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan along with many other Government officials were present.
